TEKTON HMA92002 Cross Peen Hammer Set, 5-Piece (7, 10, 18, 28, 35 oz.) with Hickory Handles

Started blacksmithing last year and these hammers have become my daily drivers. The hickory soaks up vibration beautifully and the cross peen geometry is consistent across all five weights. The progression from 7 to 35 oz. means I can move from light drawing out to heavier shaping without switching brands. Finish on the heads is clean with no sharp edges.

For the price you cannot beat five usable weights. The 18 oz. gets the most use at my forge for general forging. Heads needed a quick pass with a stone to remove some milling marks but performance has been excellent.

Five hammers, one fair price. Buy them.

Functionally these are fine and the weight spread is useful. Two of the five handles had rough spots near the head that I sanded down myself. Strikes true and no wobbling, but the out-of-box fit and finish isn't quite what I hoped for at this price.

Been doing ornamental ironwork for fifteen years and I keep recommending this set to students. Every weight pulls its own weight, so to speak — the 7 oz. for layout and riveting, the 35 oz. when you need to move serious steel. Cross peens are well centered and the faces are true. At this price it's almost silly not to own them.

I mostly use the two smallest for marking and setting nails in finish carpentry. The peen side sets nails below surface without bruising the surrounding wood. Wish the 7 oz. had a slightly thinner peen, but otherwise exactly what I wanted.

Real hickory handles, real steel, sensible weights. They don't make tools like this much anymore.

Signed up for a beginner bladesmithing course and wanted my own hammers instead of borrowing beat-up shop ones. This set covers every task the instructor threw at us. Six months in and no loose heads, no cracked handles, no regrets. The two-face design doubles your options without doubling the weight in your bag.

Loved these at first — great balance, good steel. But the 28 oz. handle developed a crack near the eye after moderate use, no abuse involved. Warranty claim is in process and Tekton support has been courteous, but I expected more durability. Downgrading until I see how the replacement holds up.

Masonry chisels, cold chisels, light demolition, forging — this set honestly does it all. The hickory has aged nicely and darkened with use. Only note is that the smallest hammer's peen is a bit wide for really fine work, but that's a niche complaint.
