GEARWRENCH 86991 Magnetic Fender Cover, Slip-Resistant Vinyl

I've been laying rags and cardboard across my fenders for years and always ended up with a scratch or two anyway. This cover's magnets hold it in place on my F-150's steel fender, tools don't slide around on the vinyl, and it wipes clean with a shop towel. Should have bought one years ago.

Holds well on the hood and fenders of my older Corolla. One small magnet corner lifts a little on the curved part of the fender but it's not a dealbreaker. Kept brake fluid drips off the paint during a caliper job, which alone paid for it. Folds up small enough to hang on a nail in the garage.

Bought this for my husband who is always working on our cars and leaving little scuffs on my fenders. He actually uses it, which is saying something. Wipes off grease easily and hasn't slid off once on his Jeep. Would buy another for his brother.

No complaints about the vinyl or the padding, but half my work is on newer vehicles with aluminum panels and the magnets obviously don't stick there. On my older steel-body truck it's great. Just know your vehicle before buying.

Did a battery replacement and a serpentine belt job this month. Belt tensioner socket slipped out of my hand and it hit the cover dead center instead of the hood. Not a mark on the truck. It's thick enough to cushion, grippy enough that my phone and wrenches stay put, and the black hides grease well. This and a $10 fender cover is the cheapest paint insurance there is.

On my truck the corners peel up if the fender is even slightly curved and a gust of wind flipped the whole thing off. It has decent padding but the magnet strength just isn't there for my panels. Disappointed.

Forty years turning wrenches as a hobby and this is my first fender cover, figured why not at ten bucks. Should have started sooner. The slip resistant surface keeps sockets from rolling into the engine bay and the magnets anchor it nicely to my classic Mustang's steel fenders. Cleans up with brake cleaner and looks new.
