GEARWRENCH 82801 Large Locking Tap Adapter for GearRatchet Pass-Thru System

Chasing threads with a tap used to mean a tap wrench and a lot of patience. With this adapter on my GearRatchet pass-thru system, tapping is smooth and I keep perfect alignment. The locking mechanism grips the tap shank securely with no slip, even in tougher steel. Half off made this a no-brainer.

I've used similar adapters that cost twice as much. This one locks down solid and the pass-thru design keeps the tap square to the hole. Reversing out chips is quick with the ratchet. If you already own the GearRatchet system, buy this.

The large adapter handles my bigger taps without any wobble and the lock holds firm. Just double check your tap shank dimensions against the spec sheet before ordering, since it won't accept everything. For the common sizes it's excellent.

Build quality is what you'd expect from GEARWRENCH, solid and well finished. My only note is that this only makes sense if you already have the pass-thru ratchets, and I only use it a few times a month. For those jobs it works flawlessly though.

Hand tapping 20 holes a day was killing me. This adapter plus the pass-thru ratchet cut my time in half and the locking feature means the tap never walks. Fantastic tool.

Locks taps securely, no slippage under reasonable torque. Used it on a frame repair last week for chasing M12 threads and it was smooth the whole way. Minus one star because it's a little heavy in the hand compared to a tap wrench.

Grips taps tight, works flawlessly.

The idea is great and when it holds, tapping through the pass-thru system is genuinely faster than a tap wrench. My problem is the locking collar tends to back off after a dozen or so ratchet strokes, letting the tap slip in the middle of a cut. I can retighten and keep going, but on a part I can't risk ruining, I've gone back to my old wrench. Quality of machining is fine, the mechanism just isn't as secure as I hoped.
