The steel shot core gives a smooth follow-through with almost no rebound, and the ball pein shapes soft metals without marring. I use it for drift punch work and forming aluminum. Balance is perfect in the hand. This is the kind of tool you pass down.

Heft and finish are excellent. Zero rebound. Worth it.

The 14 oz weight is ideal for driving pins and seating punches without the hammer bouncing off and deforming the punch tip. The non-sparking aspect is a bonus around the shop. Four stars only because I wish the grip had a little more cushion for long sessions, but performance-wise it's flawless.

Functionally it's exactly what a dead blow ball pein should be: controlled strikes, no marred work, solid construction. I just think $40 for a 14 oz hammer is a lot, even at half off. If you use one daily it's justified, for occasional use maybe not.

I've owned cheap dead blows that just had sand sloshing around. This one, you can feel the shot settle and drive the strike through cleanly. Started a punch exactly where I aimed on the first hit every time while working on a transmission job. Quality through and through, and USA made to boot.

Not too heavy, not too light. The ball pein end has saved me from renting metal-shaping equipment on a small motorcycle fender project. Grip stays put even with gloves on. Very happy.

No fault in quality but 14 oz feels tiny in hand and I underestimated the size before ordering. Wish the listing photos showed scale better. Keeping it for light work but buying bigger.
