Crescent Lufkin T150MMN 20 oz Solid Brass Square Plumb Bob, Metric, 6" / 152mm - Machined One-Piece Hook Eye

I've been framing and doing concrete work for over thirty years, and this is the kind of tool they don't make anymore. Solid brass, heavy in the hand, and the machined hook eye is one piece — no bent wire hangers snapping off on the job. Hangs dead plumb every time. At half price it was a no-brainer.

Used it to check a two-story wall and it was spot on. The square tip seats nicely against the surface for measuring offset. Brass won't rust out on a wet site like the steel ones do.

The machining is excellent and the weight is perfect for outdoor work in light wind. My only gripe is there's no cap for the point, so I wrapped it in a rag in my bag to keep the threads from dinging. Otherwise exactly what I expected from Lufkin.

You can feel the difference immediately compared to those cheap zinc-plated knockoffs. This thing hangs perfectly still and gives me a true vertical reference for my tile layout work.

Functionally it's great — plumb is true, hook eye is machined well, weight is right. But mine arrived with some tarnish and a few scuffs on the brass, so not sure if it was old stock or just storage. Doesn't affect the work, just expected slightly cleaner finish at this price point even with the discount.

Carried this on a boundary survey for three weeks straight. The 6-inch metric length is handy for my range pole offsets, and the brass has taken a beating in my truck without bending or chipping. The one-piece hook really is the selling point — I've had cheaper bobs where the eye worked loose and dropped the bob off a bridge deck. Not a chance with this one. Only knocked a star off because the metric markings are a bit shallow to read in low light.

No complaints about the tool itself — it's heavy, well-machined, and hangs true. But the listing photos showed imperial graduations and mine came metric-only, which I didn't read carefully enough on the title. My own fault probably, but returning it anyway since my crew works in inches.

My grandfather used a brass Lufkin bob his whole career and when mine got stolen off the site I bought this one without hesitating. Same dependable quality, that beautiful brass glow, and it swings out and settles fast even with a bit of breeze. The point is hardened enough to mark wood without mushrooming. Feels like it'll last another forty years.
